Olivia and Noah continue to top baby names in Alberta

A new release from the province shows Olivia and Noah were still the top baby names in Alberta last year.

It’s the 11th year in a row that Olivia has taken the top spot, and the fifth year in a row for Noah.

The names aren’t just the most popular in Alberta. Noah has been the most popular boy’s name in Canada since 2021, according to Statistics Canada.

Olivia was the most popular name in the country for seven years in a row in 2022. It also ranked first nationwide in 11 of the 13 years from 2010 to 2022.

This year’s top baby names are:

Girls:

10. A tie: Hannah and Hazel

9: A tie: Eva and Emily

8. A tie: Chloe and Violet

7. Evelyn

6. Isla

5. Emma

4. Charlotte

3. Sophia

2. Emilia

1. Olivia

 

Boys:

10. William

9. James

8. Benjamin

7. Lucas

6. Henry

5. Jack

4. Theodore

3. Oliver

2. Liam

1. Noah

 

Charlotte jumped from sixth place last year, while Emma dropped from third place and Sophia dropped from second place.

Liam has been making the top 10 for boy’s names since 2005.

Last year Alberta’s families welcomed more than 47,000 babies and chose more than 13,000 names.
